Which Dodge SUV or Van Is Right for You?
Families of all sizes. Here’s a quick overview of three Dodge family vehicles to help you pick the right one for your family.
The Dodge Journey is a three-row crossover at an affordable price. The base SE trim starts at $22,795 for the front-wheel-drive model. All-wheel drive models start at $27,195. Front-wheel drive models come with a modest 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. If you want a more quick-footed vehicle, get the all-wheel drive with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine. It produces 283 horsepower compared to the 2.4-liter’s 173 horsepower. Both models promise 500 miles of highway driving on one tank.
The Journey is great value for money. The base SE comes with automatic headlights, 60/40 split-folding second-row seats with Tilt ‘n Slide, dual-zone temperature control, black roof rails, and heated power exterior mirrors. All trims have cleverly designed hidden compartments big enough to stow the whole family’s gadgets, including laptops.
The Journey is the smallest and most budget-friendly people-mover in the Dodge range and suits a growing family.
The Dodge Durango is a midsize seven-seater SUV. You can opt for second-row captain’s chairs that will reduce seating to six. If cargo space is more important, the base SXT is the only trim that lets you remove the third row to increase cargo space. Inside the vehicle, smartphone integration, Bluetooth streaming audio, a DVD entertainment system, and plenty of USB ports will keep the kids connected and happy.
If you didn’t think an SUV can combine power and practicality, then meet the new Durango SRT. This trim boasts a powerful 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 engine that can accelerate from 0-60 in just 4.4 seconds. With a towing capacity of 8,600 pounds, this is also the vehicle for the family who enjoys camping trips. However, if the SRT’s $62,995 price tag is too steep, then opt for the R/T that tows 7,400 at $43,745. The rest of the lineup tows a maximum of 6,200 pounds.
The Grand Caravan is Dodge’s versatile minivan that accommodates seven passengers. It’s a practical family vehicle with plenty of cabin storage including in-floor bins and an overhead bin. It also features Dodge’s Stow ‘n Go storage system that allows the rear seats to fold down into the floor to maximize cargo space.
Safety features include a rearview camera, easily accessible anchors and tethers for child seats, and child protection door locks that prevent children from opening the sliding door from inside. Parents will like the observation mirror that makes it easy to keep an eye on the kids in the back seats.
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly family hauler, the Grand Caravan is one of the lowest priced minivans on the market with a starting price of $26,250. There are also no major changes to the 2018 model so you could scout around for a 2017 model to save more money.
